The research materials and publications primarily cover the life and murder of Oscar Romero and the persecution of the church in El Salvador between 1977-1993. The materials also contain research materials and publications which were used by Brockman as background for his three books. Background information on Romero, and on violence against the Catholic Church of El Salvador, and research regarding the books are the primary focus of boxes 1-8. Included in this are diaries, homilies, articles written by Romero, new releases and correspondence by Brockman. Boxes 9-15 are all periodicals that Brockman used during his investigation. The second part of the collection contains documents of Brockman's research on the subject of martyrdom, specifically the 6 Jesuit priests who were murdered in El Salvador.

Oscar Romero became archbishop of San Salvador, El Savador on February 22, 1977. He was murdured on March 24, 1980.
